Syncing LinkedIn with your applicant tracking system (ATS) comes down to one setting. When the job goes up, set Manage applicants to On an External Website and paste your ATS apply URL. That points every applicant at one candidate list instead of a LinkedIn inbox. In Canvider you connect LinkedIn under Settings → LinkedIn on employer tier 2 or higher, publish with LinkedIn ticked, then pull new people with People → Refresh Applicants. That is the loop. The rest of this post is the detail, and the parts that do not sync.
The way I think about it: LinkedIn is a pipe into one candidate list. It is not a second inbox.
Why does treating LinkedIn as a second inbox fail?
Because nobody keeps two review habits alive at the same time. I’ve watched small teams post a role, let applicants collect in LinkedIn’s own applicant view, and plan to “check LinkedIn later this week.” Later this week is when the person you wanted took another offer.
The two workarounds I hear most are both weak.
The first is exporting a CSV. A CSV gives you names and headlines. It does not carry your stages, your internal comments, your AI analysis, or any record of who already replied to whom. You paste it into your ATS and you have made a duplicate list, not a synced one. Do that twice and you have three versions of the truth.
The second is “we’ll just check it later.” That works while you have one open role and one person hiring. Add a second role, or a hiring manager who only logs into LinkedIn on Mondays, and applicants sit unread. The candidate does not know which inbox you use. They only know you didn’t answer.
One candidate list fixes both. Everything else here is plumbing to get you there.
What does syncing LinkedIn with an ATS actually mean?
It means three separate mechanisms, and it helps to name them, because vendors blur them together.
Posting is the job going from your ATS onto LinkedIn. Routing is where the applicant lands when they click Apply. Updating is what happens on LinkedIn when you change the job in your ATS afterwards.
Routing is the one that decides whether you have a synced pipeline or a second inbox. You can have a beautiful automatic post and still lose every applicant to LinkedIn if the apply route points back at LinkedIn.
How do you connect LinkedIn to Canvider?
Go to Settings → LinkedIn and connect through the Unipile OAuth flow. This is available on employer tier 2 and above. You need to be an administrator of the company page you want to post to.
Once connected:
- Tick LinkedIn when you publish a job and Canvider posts it to your administered company page automatically.
- Editing the job title, workplace type, description or locations in Canvider sends a live update to the linked LinkedIn post. You change it in one place.
- On job create Step 2, LinkedIn Live Market Research gives you market context while you’re still writing the role.
If you’re on a free Simple or Starter plan, or you’d rather not connect the account, every Canvider account has the guided manual Post on LinkedIn flow. It walks you through the fields and you paste them into LinkedIn yourself. No Unipile connection needed. You lose the automatic posting and the live edit updates, not the single candidate list.
For the personal feed version of this, which is a different play with different reach, see how to post a job on LinkedIn from your ATS. The LinkedIn integration page has the current tier detail.
Which setting actually decides where applicants land?
Manage applicants = On an External Website, with your Canvider apply URL pasted in.
This is the one step people skip. LinkedIn asks how you want to receive candidates when you create the job post. If you leave it on the LinkedIn option, applicants land in LinkedIn’s applicant view and your ATS stays empty for those people. If you set it to an external website and give it your apply URL, they come to you.
Two things worth knowing. LinkedIn’s own help documentation on applicant options for your job post notes that the collection method generally cannot be changed after the job is posted. So get it right at post time or repost. And LinkedIn’s Recruiter application flow help explains that when candidates apply on your external site, LinkedIn is not holding that applicant record for you in the same way. That is the trade you’re making, and it’s the right one if your ATS is where the work happens.
Then pull the applicants. People → Refresh Applicants in Canvider. Daily if you have volume, twice a week if you don’t. Put it next to something you already do.
What syncs and what does not?
Jobs and LinkedIn applicants from integration-published roles sync. A full Easy Apply inbox does not. The table below is the honest split.
| What | Syncs into Canvider | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jobs published with LinkedIn ticked | Yes | Posted to your administered company page |
| Title, workplace, description, locations edits | Yes | Live update to the linked LinkedIn post |
| LinkedIn applicants on integration-published jobs | Yes, via Refresh Applicants | Not automatic, you run it |
| PostJobFree applicants | Yes, via Refresh Applicants | Same button |
| Careers page, embed widget, Workloupe | Not re-imported | They already arrive in Canvider directly |
| Manually added or bulk uploaded candidates | Not re-imported | Already in your list |
| Every LinkedIn Easy Apply applicant everywhere | No | There is no full Easy Apply inbox sync |
That last row matters. I’d rather tell you the limit now than have you find it in week three. Applicants reach Canvider when the job was published through the integration, or when the apply URL points at Canvider. Jobs you posted by hand with Manage applicants left on LinkedIn are not going to appear because you clicked a button.
A few extras sit on top once LinkedIn is connected. Profile Enrichment runs on a candidate after the AI analysis, on tier 2 and above. LinkedIn sourcing needs tier 3 or higher plus a connected account.
What happens when the connection drops?
If LinkedIn shows Action needed, reconnect under Settings → LinkedIn. Then run Refresh Applicants. There is no separate reconnect button for orphaned job drafts. Refresh Applicants is the reconnect.
Two limits to plan around. Matching covers a 72 hour window, so a failure older than that stays failed until you post again or it matches by stored id. And matching needs a unique job title. If you have two open roles with the same title, that match is ambiguous and it gets skipped rather than guessed. Give roles distinct titles, like “Backend Engineer (Payments)” and “Backend Engineer (Platform)”, and this stops being a problem.
If a connection drops for longer than a couple of days, treat LinkedIn as a manual source for that stretch and check the job’s applicant view directly before you close the role.
Is this a LinkedIn Recruiter replacement?
No, and I won’t pretend otherwise. This is job distribution and applicant routing, not a Recruiter seat. You don’t get Recruiter search, InMail allowances or Apply Connect. Your own LinkedIn account limits and LinkedIn’s terms of service apply the same as they would if you were clicking through the interface yourself.
Big teams run Recruiter alongside an enterprise ATS and pay for both. For a team hiring two to ten roles a year, the useful version is simpler: one apply URL, one pipeline, one place your hiring manager logs into. LinkedIn is one of several pipes into it, the same way centralizing applications from multiple job boards works for the rest of them.
What should you do this week?
- Connect LinkedIn in Settings if you’re on tier 2 or higher. Otherwise open the guided manual post flow.
- Publish your next role with LinkedIn ticked, or paste the fields manually.
- Set Manage applicants to On an External Website and paste your Canvider apply URL. Check it before you hit post.
- Make every open role’s title unique.
- Run People → Refresh Applicants on a fixed cadence and stop opening the LinkedIn applicant view.
Frequently asked questions
How do I sync LinkedIn with my ATS?
Publish the job with an external apply URL that points at your applicant tracking system, then set Manage applicants to On an External Website. In Canvider you connect LinkedIn under Settings and LinkedIn on employer tier 2 or higher, tick LinkedIn when you publish, and pull new applicants with People and Refresh Applicants. If you leave Manage applicants set to On LinkedIn, those people stay in LinkedIn and never reach your ATS.
Does Canvider sync LinkedIn Easy Apply applicants automatically?
No. There is no full Easy Apply inbox sync. Refresh Applicants pulls LinkedIn applicants for jobs that were published through the integration, plus PostJobFree. It does not re-import people who came through your careers page, the embed widget, Workloupe, a manual add, or a bulk CV upload. Those already live in Canvider anyway.
Can I sync LinkedIn with my ATS on a free plan?
Partly. The Unipile connection, automatic posting and profile enrichment need employer tier 2 or higher. LinkedIn sourcing needs tier 3 or higher plus a connected account. Every account, including free, gets the guided manual Post on LinkedIn flow. You still get one candidate list if you paste your Canvider apply URL and set Manage applicants to On an External Website.
Is a LinkedIn ATS integration the same as LinkedIn Recruiter?
No. Canvider is not a LinkedIn Recruiter replacement and does not give you Recruiter seats, InMail volume or Recruiter search. It posts jobs, keeps published jobs in step with edits, and pulls applicants into one pipeline. Your LinkedIn account limits and LinkedIn's terms of service still apply.
